I need a beginners guide to backup a physical arcade machine. What tools are needed?

1. Use brain
2. Understand Linux dd command.

Use "Rescuezilla", it is very simple to use.
You can clone the disk and if you use the clone option without compression you can explore the backup to remove the files you are interested in without restoring the entirety.
You don't need to use the command line, its graphical interface is very intuitive and simple

Yeah and as soon as Windows sees unknown mbr data windows will change it and make the hdd USELESS !!!

@steveq Keep in mind, every system got their own tricks to clone.

More info is needed, what machine, what game, what version ?
And even then, most of the tricks to do that are "private".

Make one mistake and you got a expensive paperweight.

So figure out the EXACT info you need, verify you got good information from multiple sources.
Then RTFM to the letter.

look for reflect home setup_x64...it's made for the arcade backups... copy's everything and restores great even edits if needed.....many of us arcaders are using it for backup and storing disks for the future or making a ssd of a platter drive......

runs in windows flawless.

Drive needs to be pulled..
