Hello everyone, here I will leave a list of applications to be able to modify, add or remove songs to ddr ace, a20 and the latest data.

please always make a backup of your game as I will not be responsible if it stops working or if you mess up.

I have been using these tools for almost 1 year and there is no clear tutorial on how to do it, even I don't know how to do it and make it work well.

I'm trying to remove so many jpop songs and add the ITG songs and the old ddr songs (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)

If someone here has already dealt with the DDRA DB please leave a tutorial or something.

I only provide the necessary tools and if they ask me for help, the truth will be very little, not because I don't want to, but because I have no clear idea of how to use them.

first we are going to need the DDR A DB

DDR A-A20 DB Manager v3.63.zip

when we download it we will go to our folder where we have the ddra and we will search inside: Dance Dance Revolution Ace\data\arc\starup.arc and we will open it with the db manager. and you will get the next screen

ddradb.jpg.239816a654dea335f55d42702aff9841.jpg

Adding songs to DDR A

In theory the procedure would be:

  1. Convert the audio to XWB with XWB App. Quick DDR XWB Ripper.zip unxwb.zip xwb creation .pdf
  2. To add a Stepmania song, convert the steps to SSQ and fix the ending (I dont have any app for this ) (Edit: I found something but once again no tutorial how to use) Scharfrichter-0.0.zip I found a supose .sm to ssq converter ssqparse.zip
  3. Make jacket or thumbnail
  4. And then:
  5. add the song to the musicdb with the DB Manager
  6. copy the steps/audio/graphics to their respective places.

Note:

The arc files in the jackets folder contain DDS files that use 512x512 8.8.8.8 32f ARGB compression
Jacket thumbnails Used on Select Music use 192x192 DXT1 ARGB 4bpp 1bit alpha no MIP maps, make sure it ends up at 18.1 kbs. When compiling the .arc, you cannot use compression. The data will crash while initializing.
The Music Database is contained in the startup.arc file.

arcutils is an unpacker/packer for the .arc files that DDR A's engine uses. (Used for mods and change some graphics)

Note 2:

For new songs Delete existing songs (Jpop and songs you don't like) Change every possible value in existing songs, Unlock all songs, Merge multiple song DBs together, Check for duplicate IDs and basenames before saving.

Adding a new song won't actually give you an unused ID, so watch out when adding multiple new songs.

for the moment its all information i have if you have a nother way to do this please shared it. and please stop fighting over nonsense about who knows more or if they support it or not.

Edit:

messing around with the DB Manager i got add this song ( Kick The Can) But i need to convert the .sm to ssq step format.. also a make the .dds image for the thumbnail but i can not conver it to .arc

 image.png.30c34b2edd360c4b60b2ce7bf5b1dc8d.png

Here come a little tuto about how to Add a song

  1. Follow the step on the xwb creation.pdf
  2. Once you got the song converted in xwb with the two archive (kick.xsb & kick.xwb) put that file in to the next root:  Dance Dance Revolution Ace\data\sound\win\dance
  3. Open DDR A-A20 DB Manager v3.63.exe and select the startup.arc (WARNING: Make a copy of you startup.arc cuz if you get something bad you have a backup. The file is located in Dance Dance Revolution Ace\data\arc
  4. Once you select the startup.arc click on Add song and will appear a windows with this information  image.png.ff40fdb1764a22b036dd5e6057d89f68.png Select the mix where you want your song and click next (automatic ID must set)
  5. Refill all the data relationed to the song and press APPLY CHANGES  image.png.fe9218abac70bb43657b0eb74528624d.png

     6. Go to file and Save and repack (If you do it well you would see your new song on the mix selected but you must convert the step if don't the song will start and closes immediately.

Here is a little video

Do you know if  there is any pre-converted DDR Extreme (PS2 US version) songs? Is there a community sharing these things, or do  you just do stuff yourself and  keep it to yourself?

I understand that there is a community behind those packages in a very private forum.

I do this for myself and to see how the game behaves when other songs are added.

make a ddr game as it should be without so many boring songs

What is the personal appeal to adding your own music? At some point, doesn't this become no different than Stepmania?

I personally believe that it will never be the same as stepmania, either due to stability or gameplay.

yes there is stepmania and many themes but this is more like a challenge

Stepmanias timing is horrific in comparison.  By FPS and native fps being 60FPS.  Standard Stepmania timing is (+/-)32ms which is a huge window 64ms total.  DDRs timing by nature at 60fps is like 18.8ms. Which obviously halves the timing window for accuracy.  In game DDR is by nature the better game for timing Stepmania took ITG timing and used its basis.  Which is the lesser accurate of the 2.

I mean you're correct about the default Stepmania timing... but most themes these days actually change the timing windows anyways to be tighter, like Simply Love (set to In The Groove timing) or the DDR themes (which set the windows to... you get the picture).

I mean you're technically correct, but most people don't use the default theme all that much anymore

Edit: After double checking some of this, your 2nd to last sentence is incorrect. In The Groove was originally based on Stepmania, and when Konami bought them out, everyone changed their timing windows anyways.

And the Fantastic window for In The Groove is 23 ms, not 32.

Theres a reason why people that intend to compete utilize correct timing though, and from what ive tested/seen the windows even though maybe tighter ms wise you almost cannot get exact timing with the stepmania. You will almost certainly be soon on every count.  Its indeed adjustable, but it cannot assume the same timing because its ms based and not fps based.  I have ditched SM entirely because of this.

how?

you have to open a cmw window in the same folder where you have ssqparse.jar the files for the song (ogg/mp3 png's and sm) then, you have to input this command in cmd:

java -jar ssqparse.jar kick.sm kick

in this example: kick.sm is the original sm file, and kick is the generated SSQ file... the file is created but wont work

i used to use ddr a db manager a lot. but right now, after i save and repack, the startup.arc size is significantly larger and is also the reason ddr a is suddenly unplayable. i didn't change any of the steps (heck what i just did was delete a song, then save and repack). the startup.arc size changes from 123kb to 176kb. i don't know what's going on because i never change the procedure and then this happens.

I patched the manager to work with all A20, A20plus and A3 without the error. I found out that even tho the zip says its version 3.63 it is really 3.62 that has the error :/ I compiled it from source and even added A3 functionality.

Works for me. But ill attach it here if it doesnt work for you. Please try the link with VPN, maybe it is region dependend?

Edit:

Other info can be found here: https://dev.s-ul.net/ARC/ddr-a-db-manager/-/merge_requests/1

I did just the most basic maintenance, so "A3 functionality" is literally "shows A3 songs as its own color" but I don't believe there was much else added that needed to be looked at. I didn't play with the program much then to add few songs to check if it works. If there are other bugs, they have to be looked at by someone more skilled or if I encounter any that bother me I might try it again myself.

If you add songs, make sure you have the OG unmodified file saved in case of a fuckup.
