if you have autohotkeys or launchbox, you can add this to close games. 2Joy11 is my shutdown button on bartop, you could replace that with anything you want

$2Joy11::

Oh, I understand.

Thanks for your gently answer,

> it will crop it to the regular dimension

No, the video is not cropped but enlarged, like any video you see with a video player, in full screen. Then whether the video is blurred or not, this depends on the quality of the video and the quality of the enlargement. And in Daphne it looks good at 1600x1200 (which is a standard resolution in computer science, and is among the various emulator options).

I see that in your SINGE43 file group there are cinematic "movie" videos, so not 4:3.
I would like to know if these videos have cropped images.

Not sure i'm following you with Daphne. I mean for example Cliffhanger original video is 640*480. You can change the video with, say, 1600*1200, but it won't work. You will only see part of the image cause the rom dictates the screen size to 640*480.

Of course this is not a general rule since DL, DL2, and SA does not suffer this limitation, but most of the other games are like this i think.

Now for the 4/3 games those versions are 1440*1080 and for the rest it depends on the game.

- TG and DL2 are natively 4/3 so no story

- Asterix, Cliff, Fire and Ice, Mononoke are cropped from a 16/9 version (meaning that some part of the image left and right are missing). No black at all.

- Sucker Punch and Titan are cropped too, but the source is 2.35, so there are still black bars above and below (removing those bars would mean removing too much image left and right)

Hi Karis. Just wanted to give a huge thanks for all the work on these games. I have managed to grab all the Singe2.0 official games from the Kangaroo site. Then i have grabbed yours and upgraded Cliff Hanger and Fire and Ice. I'm REALLY excited to play Sucker Punch (one of my all time favourite movies), i've taken a quick look so far and checked all games are working, Sucker Punch is so nicely put together with the overlay gfx, skill mode options and logos etc. Absolutely great stuff and THANK YOU.

It seems to me that you have started working on the pc with a 16:9, 16:10 or something like that.

Viewing a video in a narrow format (16:9, 2:35:1, etc) on a 4:3 TV or a 4:3 screen always displays the entire video and above and below it appears black. It has always been like this. If you want to spoil the video, removing the black, the image distorts taking up the whole screen. This in software video players and so in the Daphne-Singe.
I strongly advise you to remove the download of the 4: 3 file, it is not needed and makes the video look worse.

Thank you for the info but could you show me a screen capture ?

Because i've got several testers for 4:3 and they did not experienced this. For them it's a normal 4:3.

I don't have advanced software but only the STAMP button + Paint . With Daphne the result is an all black image. I do not know why.

I downloaded the 480p movies for Singe2 and they are 640x480, 4:3. Cinema films are not 4:3 (neither 16:9) but 1.85:1 (FLAT) or 2.35:1 (SCOPE).

You should edit the Singe 2's HD videos to SD but no 4:3 (720x576 Europe or 720x480 America) but in the right format, which I don't remember right now.

You watch a NO 16:9 DVD on an HD TV and you will see black bars above and below (if the TV is configured well). You put the dvd in the pc and you watch with a video editing software what format it is.

480p versions are made for people playing with 4/3 resolution with an old PC (old arcade for example).

I won't claim it's a perfect solution but an in-between. This is a hobby so I can't make one version for everyone. But anyone can grab the original file i made and transform it the best way for him.

Actually the most important thing in this 4/3 version is the overlay dir which is downsized to fit 480p.

It is much easier faster than you think.
I feel your kindness to answer the questions of us "ONLY PLAYERS" but in my opinion, you who work at Singe, you lack the basic knowledge of the videos.

You watch this trailer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipTMrPQ3R2w

The whole, black + video, is 16:9. The video is in cinematic format.

1)
For your HD version you should get blu-rays that don't cut 16:9 movies but leave them in full version. And with that make the video for the game.

2)
TO SIMPLIFY (so I don't have to look for another movie) we pretend that the "ALL" (black + video) is 4:3. You will always have to do the same, take the video ONLY. Then when a person plays in a fullscreen 4:3 monitor the emulator zooms in on the video without distorting it and automatically adds black bars; the ones you see in the movie. I know this from personal experience.
In practice, in the video file (for the 4:3 version) there must be no black bars.

Thank you. I will watch it. it's always ggod to learn new things.

But first we don't really "work" for Singe. It's just a hobby for all of us and i'm not better than anyone at it. Actually i made the tutorial to make it possible for anyone to create its own game (and i encourage you to try it).

Second, even if it's easy, time is lacking. As everyone, I've got a day job and also other hobbies (music). I've concentrated all my efforts around Singe 2 for a time and will certainly do it again in the future, but for now i'm having a break cause work is demanding (music too :)

Apart from this, there's not always a Blu-Ray (Titan is a good example).

Hey there. I've been working on a game in SINGE and I've run into a bizarre issue. When I complete the first level, it just loops back to the beginning of the last scene. At this point, the following error appears in the console:

Error executing function 'onOverlayUpdate':  Cliff2/Script/main.singe:135: attempt to index a nil value (field '?')

Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this? I'd really appreciate the help.

Posté(e)

FOR KARIS

You asked me for "a screen capture" 4:3 but I can't create it, so I linked the video to you. It is just a trailer, and you just need to watch the first few seconds. And I recommend you do it now, before it gets deleted from the site. Then if now you don't have time to do the correct 4: 3 conversion, do it when you can.

Hello,

Someone reported this to me. Apparently it is linked to 2.21 version cause 2.2 doesn't do this. On the other hand i can't reproduce this bug at home.

EDIT: Ok, i've got it. It has to do with the trophy system.

So for a quick fix please open trophy.singe in script and change :

BeatLevelWithOneLife(3)

AND

BeatLevelWithOneLife(5)

with

BeatLevelWithOneLife(1)

Actually the reason is simple. This file is looking level 3 and 5 and don't find them...

Thanx Karis.

I had same issue and you solved the problem.

I am tryin to convert a GOOD OLD GAME to singe 2.

This is my first attempt in singe !

Thanx a lot !

Can I Ask you some Tips?

How does work Random?

By scenes or by levels?

I saw that when i change extra movies to ready/death or all

with scene rewind set to last move the game seems to not doing it the right way.

p.s.

I have created a menu video with all the things needed.

Hope you can understand my bad english.

Thanx, thanx, thanx

Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm still having the same issue with the level repeating, only now I'm getting a different error:

Error executing function 'onOverlayUpdate':  Cliff2/Script/main.singe:23: attempt to perform arithmetic on a nil value (local 'thisMuch')

EDIT: I just tested it again, and the bug only occurs if I play through the level perfectly. I'm pretty sure at this point that the bug has something to do with the end-of-level point bonus and the penalty applied for dying.

Yeah probably.

Do you have this line in the game script ?

PERFECTBONUS = 10000

Should be line 66

You can still send me the game for testing.

Yeah you can ask anything (i also speak french) ;)

I'm here to help. Please report any bug.

I think (only my memory) random is by level.

Can you explain the extra movies behavior in your case please ?

I'll be more specific when i can.

but for now you can reproduce it with games like  ESh, Fire and ice, cliff.

I tested those games and the error appear in all.

in the menu you have to set rewind to last move and the extra movie to ready/death.

with this settings when you die the program not rewind to last move but it plays something else making it unplayable.

I think it's a program Bug.

P.S.

I can give you a link to download my wip work, if I can send a private message.

I'd say that probably you had a 2.20 template for the game file and not 2.21 (not talking about the big script, but the game script).

To be sure, you can still download the blank. singe and check that all the lines in there are well included in your game script (PERFECTBONUS was added in 2.21).

So i found the (small) bug pointed by gig and corrected it : - strange behavior of the game when death rewind is on "Last Move" and Extra Movie on "Ready/Death" or "All".

Sorry about this, but there are so many options in the script that it's difficult to test all of them :)

I've updated the main script to 2.21a (and also the games, DL2e is not impacted, but it's not a very important to upgrade if you don't plan to mess with the extra movie options)

If you're currently developping a Singe Game you're strongly encouraged to replace your main.singe with this 2.21a file.

No new game, but maybe i found a movie motivating me. We'll see.

The file is mainly for new games. It won't change anything for you if you don't plan to change the extra movie settings for the existing games (normally, they are ok by default, as no-one really wants to have Normal Death+Extra Death+Get ready in between failures).

That said, if you really want to be updated, just paste the file in each script dir, except DL2. There's only one line changing so it won't make any mess.

TIPS
- I tried Singe2. I suggest you add the item, in the menu option "9", EXIT NO SAVE.
- Also different color key pressed (clic cli clic... power), only without border looking quickly (and elsewhere) you can get confused in the play
- Menu.bat (the graphic games list) options to play in full screen or not, and other customizations for game.

You should give the opportunity, to those who want to work for the version in their own language, to make it. You could put a tutorial on how to get "their

audio" from dvd or bluray. Then send it to you so that you create the exact "original" copy of the video but in a different language.

PROBLEMS
-In my Singe2 top trophies screen of the different colored winner's cups. In the different explanation the 4 cups are all red.
-Conan goes from level 1 to 3.
-Hologram Time Traveler is the 3D version and it looks bad, like a my Singe 1. Only for 3D glasses? Version 2 (Singe 1) is perfect vision.

In the .rar archives of these games,
Esh's Aurunmilla

Super Don Quix-ote
Triad Stone

there is also the emulator. I have arranged them like the others but they do not appear in the "graphic list" of games to choose.
Can I make changes because they appear, or are they "preliminary" versions?

Fan games are cool but they are different from the original laser games. They have audio and that's a particular thing for a video game. It is normal to always do the part several times, for example in a difficult level in a shooter game. But to hear the same "spoken audio" over and over again I'm tired of it, I don't know about others people.

I suggest you create a fan game with a silent film with Charlie Chaplin, a very turbulent film, or the short films,

Hey singe users ive found if you are having problems using joypad with singe (mine doesnt seem to recognize mine) there is a FREE to use program that works well to solve this its called joy to key , it lets you make directions on joypad or mouse be keyboard letters or numbers ie if A keyboard button was for LEFT on the game , you can make LEFT on your joypad=A button on keyboard and so on i hope this helps a few that have the same problem :)
