This video looks really great!  Thanks for leading the way on this!  Brings back memories of the arcade.

One question... what is the option to remove the white text at the top for player lives, etc?  Thanks!

Anyone been able to get it to play properly with -opengl argument?
I would prefer that over the software rendering method if it's possible with these video files.

Thanks for the work.
Also, I haven't seen a response/update to the post regarding missing references in the framefile above.

Will that be addressed?  Or will simply manually adding the references that are missing to the included framefile fix the problem?

This is absolutely amazing.  Great work!

Suggestion to try @daphne.exe lair2_318 vldp...  if you don't want the game telling you what key to push

I am not sure what other changes have been made in this ROM version (lair2_318), but you can use the original ROM (lair2) and get into the service menu (service+sword at same time) and change difficulty to anything above "0" and the hints will disappear.

Hi @sirdrak

This is pretty amazing work. When I compared Dragon's Lair with my current media set, I immediately noticed some issues in the dls33d?vob.m2v and associated audio files.

The issues are different in the normal and widescreen versions (length is from my existing audio files)

existing -> your 4:3

d1 (geysir 1.920s) -> a weird mashup in d1 and d2
d2 (lava 1.920s) -> d3
d3 (stream 4.352s) -> d4
d4 (hottub 2.464s) -> d5
d5 (feet burn 1.440s) -> missing

existing -> your 16:9

d1 (geysir 1.920s) -> d1+d2
d2 (lava 1.920s) -> d3, cut short
d3 (stream 4.352s) -> d4
d4 (hottub 2.464s) -> d5
d5 (feet burn 1.440s) -> d6

The audio files are messed up, too. Is it possible to fix this?

Would it make sense to compare duration of all your remastered file's with my existing media sets?

There is also an extended "director's cut" like version. I have the additional video and rom files somewhere? Would it be possible to upscale them as well?

Thanks!

Hi @sirdrak amazing work my friend!!

I have the PC versions of DL, DL2 and Space Ace and I like them better in terms of gameplay, UI, overall design.

These PC version all have the correspondent movie folders with every single scene in a .wmv format.

Is there any possibility to make this AI upscale for these files? Can you teach me? Or if I send the files?

Many thanks, love to see these timeless games getting some love in 2020!

You can convert the remastered M2V to WMV. Have you tried if the game would actually allow playing higher resolution files?

I'm sorry.. but, I have to be critical of how "Red" Dirk the Daring's flesh tone is in Dragon's Lair.

I like the how all the colors "pop" and the DNR that has been applied to the film..

but, Dirk looks like he's been "Singed" too many times.

Um Yeah, it's not much of what you'd call a color correction.. colors are way too saturated.

I seem to be missing 1 file. The screen goes black...I hear audio however, Then Im being tossed agaist a wall by a purple hairy thing. Any idea which file that is and if You can attach it here?

Posté(e)

Thanks for sharing but there is a way to change settings of the game?

I tested Space Ace and it is more difficult than the original. I have to push the action button before the action if not I die...

Impossible...

Great work! Nice to see it remastered.   I remember this game first hitting the arcades in 1983.

I am currently running on a Retropie system on a Rpi3 which is working great. Does anyone know, can I just replace the current .m2v files with the remastered files and leave everything else the same?

Thanks

hi @sirdrak

Amazing job with these! Any chance of porting these to Singe 2?

Karis already ported Dragon's Lair 2 but the quality of your video files is better in my opinion. But karis assets for the game are amazing (small icons,menus, etc).

Optional english audio for Dragon's Lair 2: Timewarp 16:9 version added.

Hola. Excelente trabajo. Muchas gracias.

These look amazing, like they were drawn yesterday! Thank you so much for this project :)

One note - I think the final part of your Space Ace 16:9 archive may be corrupted. MEGA doesn't want to download it.

This is great! thank you for the work.  My kids love stranger things so seeing Dragon's lair in person made their day... I can't get a game in myself.

Thank you!  These are absolutely AMAZING!  These look better than a real laser Disk.  They could not be more beautiful.  I am running them thru Daphne and LaunchBox / Big Box.  No problems at all.  If anyone is trying to run these and you are replacing your old mpeg flles just make sure to use the framefiles that come with this package.  I only say bc the framefiles could be different so double check them line for line.  These LD player / emulators are very finicky with misspellings and any thing that is not correct will cause it will not run.

Once again I am very grateful for these remastered masterpieces!

Hi,

First of all steunning job !!!

I really like the clear picture.

I run in in W10 without a problem, however I tried it on the retropie and the video is freazing continuosly ..... I run retropie on a PI3 ... is it performance problem or I need some specific configuration setting ?

Anybody else tried it ?

Thanks

I think I've read Daphne for dummies, I think I need Daphne for idiots. I've downloaded these files and tried to get Daphne to run them with no success. Any pointers?

I can't even believe how good this looks.  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!   This easily just made my day discovering these, and I'll be enjoying these for a long time.  By far the clearest pics/remaster of this game I've ever seen.  I would have just been happy to see the improved video quality, but now we can actually play them as well?!  Outstanding!  Thanks again!  Dragon's Lair and Space Ace two of my absolute favs as a kid!

Hi Sirdrak, i've got DL1 set up and working and it looks amazing compared to the old version. As this was close to 5gb, i will have to wait a bit to grab the other 2 sets of files, damn 5gb per day limit.

Anyway, i posting this mainly to say a big thank you for these, they do look and work great. Once i have these all set up nicely, i will move my new emulation PC over to my BIG tv and introduce my kids to these amazing old games.

I do have a question though :) Of course. As i'm getting these files i am getting more and more familiar with how Daphne or Singe1/2 works, with framefiles, how the loader looks at those, where they need to be and what needs to be in the batch files etc. But i'm certainly no expert. I wonder, is there a way to use your upscaled version within the DaphneLoader menu so i don't need the batch file? Absolutely fine if this is not possible, but i'm hoping with some guidance it is, and i wil use that knowledge to add Star Blazers v2 and Freedom Fighters to the menu also. Possibly even Goal To Go and Firefox if i can source the files and get them working.

I wonder. Can i use your video files to replace the ones that get downloaded maybe? Or... Is there a way to get your files to appear in the menu list alongside the default version of DL1? (I would just remove the original DL1 from the menu, i do know how to do that bit :))

Hope you can advise. Many thanks.

Hello,

First, I would like to thank you on a job well done Sir! Second, I have read this thread but I do not see any mention of playing this on a Retropie? I have a 3B+ and when I run the game in Retropie it is really really slow. I mean you do not even see the cut scenes until after you mess up. Even then it just can not keep up. Any suggestions to get this to run at normal speed? I mean the game does work and would like to see it playable in Retropie!

Thanks!

I play to Space Ace with Daphne. I ask here why the option, present in the arcade game, could also be present in Singe 2 and you might know it.

This option is WATCHDOG TIMER, what is It?

Posté(e) (modifié)

As SIRDRAK is busy doing incredible work re-coloring our nostalgic imagery, hoping someone else might take the time to post a note about how they got this working with Retropie Daphne (if at all) for those of us who are now too old to boil water correctly.

Well, got it working on Retropie and it looks amazing. One main thing is to make SURE you delete all the .dat files that sirdrak has included in his files. Daphne will recreate those when it runs and those will likely work fine.

Question - on the frame files.   I have been using the 16x9 Dragons Lair set - great job.    But, are the frame files correct?   Now and then it seems like a scene is "cut off" (notably, death scenes) before it's fully played.   THe game continues but it seems like the scene was abruptly ended.   I wonder if the frame files may indicate the start/end incorrectly.

thanks

Posté(e)

Just a small request here, what are the chances of you running the exact same process on the dl-slates.mv2 file? I am just hoping that it can clean it up a little as the quality of this file is really lacking. If anything it would at least give us a scaled up matching 1080 file for the insert coin instructions and so on. I am not sure where the original source for this file is, if it is even on the dvd/br disks or not, but it looks like it didn't get the amazing touch up of the rest of the game.
