Hi, I was wondering...is there any way to disable to words onscreen in DL 2 Timewarp?

I think that it can be done accessing to the service menu of the game (you have to press service key -'9' key-, and then, without releasing, press 'sword' to access service menu).

This is incredible! Is there a way that you could include the prototype Dragon's Lair footage from the DVD?

That would be great to have the prototype levels in this quality.

This is absolutely amazing.  Great work!

Suggestion to try @daphne.exe lair2_318 vldp...  if you don't want the game telling you what key to push

What does that mean "lair2_318 vldp" there is a way to disable text overlay?

make sure the batch file starts with this, so the game won't tell you left right etc.  It starts a different version of game.

Incredible!! Best versions of Don Bluth's games so far. Using  "lair2_318 vldp" worked like a charm to remove the words onscreen. Also, removing "-useoverlaysb 2" from the batch file removes onscreen scores from DL and ACE

Thank you, these look amazing!

We really appreciate your work on this 😊😊😊!

Anyone noticed issues with dragon lairs 2 and space Ace with Daphne?

Ran the English versions and dl2 and space Ace, seems dl2 goes out of sequence videos when you die that seem further in the story.

Space ace on the other hand continues to the next scene when you die and after 3 death its game over.

This is when running the batch file.

Is that a known issue with Daphne or something I'm doing wrong?

Than you!

Dragon's Lair 2 is working fine here, 4:3 and 16:9 versions...

In the Space Ace case, that's normal... The arcade versions of Dragon's Lair 1 and Space Ace works this way. When you die, in the next life the game continues to the next scene. This was changed for the domestic versions of the games (Pc and consoles)

Has anyone run these through any of the front ends like Launchbox? Know if they will load correctly?

I used them in hyperspin, loads great. I Added them to the mame arcade wheel as pc games.

So i have the HD 4:3 versions running on my arcade cabinet but I have black lines on top and bottom. How do I get it in full screen? Am using a 5:4 screen. In the old versions I think I fixed it in Daphne loader can't remember. Also what is the bank settings for unlimited lives for Dragons Lair and Space Ace?

Hi, yesterday i add your beautiful games to my Hyperspin (Rocketlauncher) system, but they didn't worked :-(

Finally i found the problem: i had my Daphne system configuration in Rocketlauncher with the Hardware acceleration ( -opengl command).  WHen i deactivated it, it worked like a charm.

Brutal y muchas gracias.

As i commented when i was talking about the three methods to do the work, the second one (using Video Enhance AI to process to mp4 video directly) has the problem of not offering options about codec or bitrate used by Video Enhace AI for the final video. Video Enhance AI, for now, uses h.263 and 15-20 MB of bitrate, so the resulting video has in some situations, visible compression errors or pixelations. In the first AI remasters i used this method (the Dragons Lair 1 & 2 16:9 versions) but later (and after buying an extra new 8TB hard drive) i decided to use the third method, to process the videos to independient pngs and then process them with a video editor like Vegas Pro with the hightest quality allowed by the mpeg2 codec. Unfortunatelly, mpeg2 is very old and totally outdated, and that limited the best quality possible for the videos (you can have much more quality using modern codecs like h.264 or h.265, and use highter resolutions -UHD, 8K- and highter fps rates) so it's possible to see some pixelations in some situations too, but better than with the other method.

The quality of the original videos is very relevant too. I could see that if a 'nograin' version is used as a start, the results are better. The clearer the original videos, the more detailed are the resulting ones. So it's best to use DVD 720p versions or Bluray ones. Surprisingly, good results are achieved with pixelated videos, as for example, in the case of the PC DVD edition that I used for Space Ace, whose videos were in windows media video and 720p (clear but pixelated). AI corrects a lot of original video problems with pixelations and macroblocks. Some examples of this (click on the images to see them at their original resolution):

About the more vivid colors, that's because i do some carefully color corrections over the original videos before processing them with Video Enhance AI, this way there is no detail loss.

I wonder how this technique would look on some of the lower quality Laserdisc captures that will never see an HD version, such as Cobra Command and Road Blaster.  I get a feeling that since they are cartoons, it will probably help quite a bit.

Has anyone had any luck getting these to work on Daphne in Retropie?  I would love to have them in there in 16:9 glory.  I'm guessing I need to do more than just copy all the video files to a "lair.daphne" folder, ;)

Sirdrak,

There is a problem with SPA05.VOB.m2v on the Space Ace 4.3.  It is not complete and cuts off midway.

You are right... I revised the file and now i uploaded a corrected one... You can download it here:

Excellent. Thank you!!!  Another thing that I found is that the included framefile is missing many points.  Below is a compare of a previous framefile that includes all of the points and have attached the framefile here.  If you want to test this on your side, the first noticeable missing point is at the very beginning when you energize into Ace, the death scene right after you energize does not play as this is the missing 2341 Frame.  So far everything else I have played looks good.  Thank you so much for your work on this as it looks beautiful!!!

Hi friend,

Thank you so much for using this program to present these excellent games.  May I ask, what was your original source?  You mention the Space Ace DVD but is that the DVD-ROM?  Because the DVD video is 480p.  Or is it the Wii Dragon's Lair Trilogy?

Thanks again.

No Singe version as far as I know. Only released in PC / PS1 / Sega Saturn / 3DO.

I've been playing the 3DO version with graphics smooth filter upscaled (on the 4DO emulator).

I didn't see an answer to this question so I'll try again:

Can someone share the details on where to put what files in Retropie's Daphne emulator to get these working there?

Below are links to attract videos I upscales using the information in this post. Feel free to use them if you like! Both are 16:9 Crops, scaled.
